The film “City of God” produced in 2002 by O2 Filmes, Vídeofilmes and Globo Filmes was distributed by Lumière Brasil.

The feature is an adaptation made and scripted by none other than Braulio Montovani from the book City of God written by renowned writer Paulo Lins.

The film was directed by Fernando Meirelles and also by director Kátia Lund.

And it brings as actors the hitherto unknown Leandro Firmino (Zé Pequeno), Alexandre Rodrigues (Buscapé), Jonathan Haagensen (Cabeleira), Matheus Nachtergaele (Cenoura), Douglas Silva (Dadinho) and Seu Jorge (Mané Galinha).

The film takes place in the early 60s when the Cidade de Deus Favela began to be built and in the 80s it became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro, thus portraying the growth of organized crime in the region.

As the story unfolds, several characters appear in events that at some point in the film intertwine, and everything is told from the point of view of the protagonist Buscapé, who was forced to grow up in a violent environment, but even though he tried, he was unable to follow this path. and dreams of being a photographer.

Tropa de Elite, released in 2007, is a Brazilian film of the Drama/Police genre directed by José Padilha who also wrote its screenplay together with Rodrigo Pimentel and Braulio Mantovani, being produced by Marcos Prado.

The main theme of this feature is certainly the Urban Violence that plagues the city of Rio de Janeiro along with the daily life of the Special Operations battalion, BOPE and its captain, Nascimento.

The book brings to its viewers elements present from the book Elite da Tropa by Rodrigo Pimentel, André Batista and Luiz Eduardo Soares.

The film stars Wagner Moura (Capitão Nascimento), André Ramiro (Mathias), Caio Junqueira (Neto), Milhem Cortaz (Capitão Fabio), Fernanda Machado (Maria) and Fabio Lago (Baiano).

In the film there is a harsh criticism of drug users, attributing all the blame for the growth of drug trafficking and also of violence in the cities.

This generated a huge debate in the Brazilian media, along with the torture by the police shown in the film, thus generating some questions such as turning some characters into heroes, being them violent with criminals and the needy population that live in the favelas.

However, director José Padilha does not agree with this approach.

The film was awarded at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 with the Golden Bear award for best film.

The plot tells the story of a BOPE Captain who has some psychiatric problems and makes use of medication to control anxiety while not finding anyone to take his place as leader of the special squadron team.

On the other hand, two friends, Neto and Mathias, are aspiring military police officers who live a whole environment of dirty corrupt police officers, bribery, association with drug trafficking and find themselves trapped in the system that the police leadership itself imposes.

In an occurrence in Morro do Turano, the two get involved in a big shootout where they are saved by Captain Nascimento and his men, thus having an interest in joining the BOPE.

From there, Nascimento's focus is to make one of the two become his replacement so that he has more time to take care of his wife and newborn child.

The story is full of drama, suspense and certainly a lot of action, thus making Tropa de Elite one of the main names in national cinema of all time.

Pixote, the Law of the weakest is a Brazilian drama released in 1980 with a screenplay by Hector Babenco and Jorge Durán and also directed by Hector Babenco.

The feature is based on the book by writer José Louzeiro called Ïnfância ds Mortos”.

Considered by many as a documentary of chilling accounts of young delinquents in Brazil, the film managed to convey a cruel portrait of the true reality of the streets of the capital São Paulo, where in the midst of children there is often no more innocence when they come into contact with a world filled with violence, prostitution and crime.

The plot features actor Fernando Ramos da Silva (who was killed sometime after the film at the age of nineteen by the São Paulo Military Police) as the main character and renowned actress Marília Pêra as Sueli, a prostitute.

The story revolves around the character of Fernando, Pixote who, after escaping from a reformatory for juvenile offenders, is recruited by criminals to transport drugs and carry out robberies.

This film is a critical success, even internationally with several foreigners placing Pixote among the ten best films that premiered that year.

The Brazilian feature film was nominated for a Golden Globe award in the best foreign film category. In 2015, more precisely in the month of November, Abraccine (Brazilian Association of Film Critics) elected the film “Pixote, a Lei do Mais Fraco” as one of the 100 best national films of all time.
