I've arrived in Brazil (with controversy)! If there's one app that has caused a stir in recent years, it's this app. Has Box.
Created by the Federal Government and administered by Federal Savings Bank, it came as a helping hand for millions of Brazilians.
But… is it really worth it? Is it any good? Is it easy to use? Does it cause problems? Well, today I’m going to tell you EVERYTHING about this app in a simple, straightforward and straightforward way.
So if you've heard of the Has Box and want to know if it's really worth downloading and using, stick with me here!
What is Caixa Tem and what is it for?
THE Has Box is an application created to facilitate access to financial services for those who have an account at Federal Savings Bank.
The main idea is to offer a free digital bank, accessible to everyone, especially those who do not have accounts in traditional banks.
What can you do with Caixa Tem?
Receive government benefits (Brazil Aid, FGTS, Unemployment Insurance, PIS, etc.)
Make payments and transfers via Pix, boletos and TED
Generate virtual debit card for online shopping
Check balance and bank statements
Cell phone top-up and bill payment
That is, if you have ever needed to withdraw the Emergency Aid, FGTS or any other benefit, it is very likely that you have come across Caixa Tem.
Now, let's talk about the benefits and problems it has, because not everything is perfect, right?
Advantages of Caixa Tem – What’s good about this app?
Okay, Caixa Tem has its flaws (we'll talk about them in a moment), but it plays a very important role in Brazil. Let's look at the positive points:
1. It is 100% free!
Yes, unlike some digital banks that charge hidden fees, Caixa Tem There is no cost to open and maintain an account. So you can move money, pay bills and even withdraw money without spending a penny on fees.
2. Facilitates access to government benefits
Before, receive benefits such as FGTS, Family Allowance, PIS, etc… It used to be endless bureaucracy. Now, with Caixa Tem, everything goes straight into your account and you can make transactions using your cell phone without having to go to a branch.
3. You can pay and transfer money quickly
Even though it's a government app (which already makes us expect something a bit slow), it supports Pix, transfers via TED and payment of bills. This already solves 80% of many people's financial lives.
4. Have a virtual debit card
If you don't have a credit card, Caixa Tem helps you with one virtual debit card. This means you can shop online, pay for streaming services and even order delivery without needing a physical card.
Well, now that we’ve talked about the good side… Let's talk about the defects? Because yes, there are some difficulties.
Negative points – What’s bad about Caixa Tem?
Not everything is perfect, right? Anyone who has used Caixa Tem knows that it can be a somewhat stressful experience. Let's look at the main problems:
1. The app is slow and crashes A LOT
This is no exaggeration! Caixa Tem has been the most complained about for freezing when opening, closing by itself and taking forever to load. If you need to make an urgent payment and the app decides not to cooperate, that's it.
2. Ridiculous virtual queues
Yes, in 2025, Caixa Tem still has a virtual queue system. In some high-volume moments (such as when FGTS or a new government benefit is released), you need to wait your turn to access the app. This can take hours.
3. Low transaction limit
Many people complain that the daily transaction limit is low. If you need to pay for something more expensive or transfer a larger amount, you may be frustrated.
4. Almost non-existent customer service
If you have a problem, be prepared to spend hours on the phone, being bounced from one agent to another. The support is not the best and often the solution comes after a LOT of stress.
Is it worth using Caixa Tem?
Well, after testing and analyzing the app, here is my honest opinion:
🔹 If you receive government benefits, Caixa Tem is practically mandatory. Because it was created to facilitate this access and, in this regard, it works well (when it is not crashing, of course).
🔹 If you want a digital bank for everyday use, maybe Caixa Tem is not the best option. It is very limited, and there are better options like Nubank, Banco Inter and Mercado Pago, which offer more complete services without so many headaches.
🔹 If you need a simple app to pay bills and make Pix, it works. But only use it if you really don't have a better option.
Alternatives to Caixa Tem – What to use instead?
If you want to escape the problems of Caixa Tem and have a better digital bank, here are some options:
💜 Nubank – No queues, fast and with credit card.
💰 Inter Bank – No fees and a higher limit for transactions.
📱 Mercado Pago – Great for Pix and online shopping.
🔵 PagBank – It works well and even offers automatic income.
These banks are much more complete and do not suffer from virtual queues or crashes.
Is Caixa Tem good or not?
If you need it for government benefits, use it.
But, if you are looking for a complete digital bank, run away!
THE Has Box It has its purpose and helps millions of Brazilians, but it is not the best option for those who want practicality and complete banking services.
